SAT Accommodations: Approval and Preparation

Check approved accommodations with College Board and your school before choosing a test date or practice setup.
Approval comes before testing
Students who need SAT accommodations must follow College Board’s Services for Students with Disabilities approval process. A school plan does not by itself confirm the exact testing arrangements. Start early and check the current requirements.
Arrangements depend on the approval
Extended time, breaks, assistive technology and other arrangements depend on the approved accommodation. Do not infer an accommodation from a diagnosis or assume every student tests in the same location or format.
Paper testing remains possible
Some approved school-based accommodations involve paper testing. Confirm format, location and schedule with the school’s SSD coordinator and College Board.
Practice under the appropriate conditions
Use official guidance to become familiar with the approved setup. SAT Clarity’s current timed mock runner uses standard timing and does not implement every approved accommodation; it should not replace accommodated Bluebook preparation.
